Primary Tutoring in Swansea
At Nurturing Tutors, we provide online tutoring for children in Swansea who need support in English and maths. Swansea has one of the strongest Welsh-medium sectors in Wales, and we tailor sessions to what your child is actually working on rather than assuming an English classroom.
Families in Swansea choose us because we focus on confidence, reading fluency and core maths skills first. Our tutors adapt every session to your child's pace and personality, so learning feels supportive rather than pressured.

How the Curriculum for Wales works in Swansea — and what it means for tutoring
Wales has had its own curriculum since 2022. Key stages are gone, replaced by five Progression Steps that broadly correspond to ages 5, 8, 11, 14 and 16 as reference points rather than boundaries, and learning is organised into six Areas of Learning and Experience. There are no SATs. Instead children take online Personalised Assessments in reading and numeracy, mandatory every year from Year 2 to Year 9, adaptive so that no two children see the same questions — which means there is genuinely nothing to revise for.
Welsh-medium education is a mainstream choice in Swansea rather than a niche one: ten Welsh-medium primaries feed two dedicated Welsh-medium secondaries, and the January 2025 school census counted 4,964 pupils in the city's Welsh-medium schools. There are no dual-language schools here, so the choice is a clear one either way.
Swansea also runs a free late-entry route into Welsh-medium education that many families don't know exists. Children aged 5 to 11 enrol at the Welsh-medium school of their choice and then attend the council's immersion centre three days a week for three terms, with transport arranged and no fee. For tutoring it matters that in Welsh-medium schools maths is taught through Welsh, so a child asked to work in English is translating as well as calculating, and formal English teaching typically begins later, with English a mandatory curriculum element from age 7.
